Is Overthinking A Problem?
We have all had concerns and worries in our lives, things that keep us awake at night.
It’s human nature to think things through to help make a decision or evaluate a situation to find a solution.
BUT overthinking becomes a problem when you can’t get it out of your head, when you keep thinking about something so much you become parlayzed, can’t make a decision or take action.
AND it is a particularly difficult problem when it is linked to our business.
Overthinking makes us feel stressed, negative mindset builds up, there is paralysis by analysis!
It is often caused by imposter syndrome, fear of being visible, money mindset, perfectionism and a whole other bunch of “things”, that our subconscious mind keeps making us think about.
I love helping my clients resolve an overthinking problem, because it makes them feel helpless and overcoming it releases them to reach their full potential............and feel empowered.
The key is to tap into where the root of the over thinking lies.
Identify your limiting beliefs associated with the behaviour and manage your story surrounding it by changing the language you use.
If you say “I am a natural worrier and stress about starting new things”
Change it to “I am excited about my new project”.
Let go of the past.
Don’t spend lots of energy on “what ifs” and “should haves”.
The past is in the past, it can’t be changed.
The only thing that can be changed is the meaning you give it.
Valuing and learning from past mistakes is where growth lies.
Don’t let past issues hold you back, see them as an opportunity to learn that will help you in the future.
Take control of your emotions.
When you start to feel anxious ask yourself what is actually happening
Face the fear, is it real?
Our fears and overthinking are often because we are not feeling in control or progressing the way we want to.
Identify the negative source stop concentrating on it and focus on what you CAN do to move forward, implement it and take the action needed.
Finally get support and the right tools to keep you focused. The saying “When you are on the inside you can’t read the label” is so apt to overthinking everything.
Reach out to people who can help you, who can see what action you need to take, who will give you a plan and get you back on track.
