Having the freedom to take the summer off, decide when you do and don’t work is one of the amazing things about being self employed.
The idea of “living the dream”, deciding what YOU want your life to look like, especially when you are “stuck” in a 9-5 job, seems amazing. But the truth is, it can be very different.
You can have days when you are overwhelmed, don’t know what to do first, feel like you are going round in circles and get nothing done. Often because you are frozen with fear as the sales aren’t coming in and you don’t know how you will pay your bills!
I have woken up in the middle of the night worrying with a million things whirling around in my mind.......loads of times!
The point is, being self employed having the freedom to make your own choices, can sometimes be the hardest thing to deal with.
It is tough when YOU are responsible for everything, have to keep yourself accountable, come up with ideas and get the right stuff done to achieve the results you need.
It takes time to learn how to keep yourself on track.
I teach my clients to get rid of the “list” and use time blocking..........it certainly works for me. And sometimes it can seem like a bit of a faff, and we slip back to writing endless lists but inevitably with the lists comes the overwhelm, fear and procrastination.
Time blocking is a way to get you back on track, will help you know what you need to do throughout the week and what time you will do it. Stop you thinking “oh I need to do X” because you will know when you have allotted time for everything.
When you know exactly what you need to do, you’ll get up in the morning knowing what your purpose is for the day. You’ll also be more focused and get more done.
